Frequently Asked NapiSan Questions
How do I check if a garment is colourfast?

It is important to check if a garment is colourfast before using any product in the NapiSan range. The best way to do this is by soaking a hidden part of the garment for at least two hours. After this time check if the area has lost any colour and if so, the dyes used are NOT colourfast.

Do not use any NapiSan product on garments that are not coloursafe.

If you are unable to check, do not soak.

Can I pour the remaining NapiSan solution over my plants and gardens instead of tipping the product down the sink?

We would not recommend pouring it over plants. We suspect the concentration of a soaking solution would upset the pH of the soil and/or potting mix.

Can I use NapiSan in my enviro cycle or septic system?

As there are many variables involved in enviro cycle and septic systems (i.e. water usage, other product usage etc.) it is best to contact the manufacturer of your specific system. As it can be expensive to "reactivate" such systems we recommend that you consult the manufacturer for advice on their particular system.

What does "Oxy" mean?

Oxy stands for Active Oxygen, which is oxygenated bleach. This is one of the active ingredients in NapiSan OxyAction MAX that works to break down solid stains. Oxygen bleach is much less aggressive than chlorine bleach, which makes it safer to use on fabrics and coloured garments.

Do I need to wash with detergent after I use NapiSan?

There is no need to wash with detergent after using NapiSan as a soaker. However, you should always rinse the item thoroughly following treatment. If using NapiSan InWash Booster you will need to add detergent, as it is designed to work in conjunction with detergent and will not work alone.

Are there any fabrics that I cannot use NapiSan powder on?

We do not recommend using NapiSan powder on leather, silk, wool, chiffon, satin, embroidered garments or on any fabrics that do not use colourfast dyes. As with any product, we recommend performing a colourfast test on a hidden area of the fabric before using on a stained area.

Why has the stain not been removed?

Older stains or stains that have been previously washed, ironed or dried in sunlight may set and be more difficult to remove. It may take more than one application of NapiSan to treat particularly stubborn stains. Some stains like rust, bleach damage, dried paint, ink or dyes may be impossible to remove.

How is Napi San OxyAction MAX different to the previous NapiSan OxyAction powder?

NapiSan Oxy Action MAX is more powerful than the previous NapiSan OxyAction (it has a higher level of activator.) It therefore removes stains more effectively in a shorter time and at lower water temperatures. It can still be used in a variety of ways:

  • added to your wash with your detergent as an inwash stain remover
  • as a stain soaker for large stains or to revitalise garments
  • dial up the power and make it up as a paste for really tough stains
  • make it up as a liquid as an on the spot treatment for spills and stains
  • to remove germs, as an antibacterial soaker

How is NapiSan OxyAction MAX different to NapiSan In Wash Liquid?

Napisan In Wash is a liquid additive which you use in addition to your detergent in the main wash, to boost the cleaning performance and remove stains in the wash. It can't be used as a soaker or pretreater on its own. OxyAction MAX can be used as a soaker and pretreater. The activator and enzymes in OxyAction MAX mean that it is more effective on a wider range of tough stains.

What does the OxyAction MAX actually do?

'OxyAction MAX' refers to the activated oxygen powered cleaning nature of the formula, specially designed to boost the stain removal performance of the product.

OxyAction MAX has been extensively tested and does not stain clothes.

Can I store the made up solution? What about paste?

No--any leftover solution should be disposed of--either into the wash, or down the sink. Do not keep any leftover solution. It does deteriorate with time, and if stored in a closed container will give off gas which can rupture the container, leak or spill. Do not apply the paste for longer than 5 minutes, the paste will dry out and harden. Any remaining paste can be mixed with water and added to the wash.

How do I get the best results from NapiSan OxyAction MAX ?

The product can be made up to varying strengths depending on the degree of difficulty of the stain. An old stain could be treated with a paste then soaked, and washed. A fresh stain can be treated with a liquid mix, then washed. For general overall cleaning and stain removal add OxyAction MAX to the wash. For deep cleaning and best stain removal soaking is ideal.

Frequently Asked Frend Questions
How do I check if a garment is colourfast?

It is important to check if a garment is colourfast before using any product in the Frend range. The best way to do this is by spraying a hidden part of the garment with your Frend product of choice and leave for five to ten minutes. After this time check if the area has lost any colour and if so, the dyes used are NOT colourfast.

Why has a water/oil mark been left on my garment after treating with Frend?

This can occur if the stained garment is over-sprayed with a Frend trigger, as too much product is delivered on the stain. To remove the mark refer to the garment manufacturer's instructions and wash in the warmest temperature recommended with a good detergent at least 3 times.

Why has the nozzle on my Frend Ultralift aerosol stopped spraying?

The can must be shaken well before use otherwise the product does not mix properly with the propellant. This means when you spray the can, you let out all the gas. When holding the can upside down or horizontal it is important to shake it well and frequently as this angle also results in propellant being expelled from the can faster than when the can is upright. Also rinse the nozzles as old product can become clogged inside.

Why has the trigger on my Frend Ultralift Plus stopped spraying?

Are there any air bubbles in the tube? Is the trigger leaking? Hold trigger over sink and spray slowly and then vigorously to pump the bubbles out. Is trigger secure on bottle?

Is it necessary to launder garments after using Frend?

Yes. Frend products are tested on certain fabrics, with a limited contact time. As per label instructions, you should always wash the garment after pre-treatment. Washing the garment will eliminate Frend after it has done its work on the stain. Leaving the product on a garment for longer than the recommended treatment time may lighten certain fabrics. Always follow label instructions.

Frequently Asked Frend for Carpet Questions
Can I use Frend aerosol cans upside down?

No, the best way to use Frend aerosol cans is to tilt at no more than 60 degrees (see diagram on pack) and spray the stain from around 20cm away. If held upside down the can is likely to expel gas at a much faster rate, so you may not be able to use the entire contents of the can.

Why is a white cloth recommended for use with Frend for Carpets?

A white or light coloured cloth should be used with Frend for Carpets to avoid any colour transferring from the cloth onto the carpet, especially in the case of light coloured carpet.

Can I spot clean an old carpet?

General soiling will be removed during spot cleaning and on an older carpet this can give the area a lighter appearance compared with the rest of the carpet. This is not a bleaching effect, but rather a "super cleaned" effect. General foot traffic will even out the colour over time. However, in cases of very dirty/well worn carpet, all over cleaning is recommended.

What if I spray a Frend for Carpets product and forget about it for a long time? Would there be any expected discolouration?

No, there would not be any expected discolouration for any period of time longer than the 60 seconds recommended on pack. However, the product will dry after around 10 minutes so will need to be re-applied.

Is the Frend for Carpets range safe for children/pets?

Yes - these are water-based products which are considered non-toxic and relatively non-irritating. However, as with all household cleaning products, these should be kept out of reach of children/ pets.

Frend for Carpets has left brown stains on the areas where it has been applied. Why?

This is called browning and is caused by over-wetting carpets, either with a cleaning product or water alone. This discolouration is not usually permanent - a professional cleaning should be able to remove the stains.

Is there any type or colour carpet that Frend for Carpets should not be used on?

Frend for Carpets is suitable for use on synthetic, wool and wool blend carpets (wall to wall carpets). If not colourfast, we do not recommend use. Check for colourfastness by spraying the product on a hidden area of carpet. Examples of carpets that are not likely to be colourfast include hand made rugs, oriental rugs or hand-dyed rugs/carpets.

Is Frend for Carpets okay to use on stain resistant carpets?
